Peter Radcliffe was born in Chicago in 1984, where he grew up on the South Side. Raised by a pious Catholic father, Peter’s life was defined by his faith and his attachment to his father and his little sister. His mother passed away shortly after his sister’s birth in 1990, but Peter went on to earn a scholarship to the Seminary at the University of Chicago. Peter worked in several of the more run-down missions in Chicago during his time there, where he earned some respect as a contender in the school boxing club (and at the advice of his bishop, took some firearms self defense classes). He excelled in his studies, writing a thesis on the “Gnostic Gospels and their Context for the Examination of Mercy in Scripture”. He doesn’t usually wear his vestments when out and about, preferring jeans, sneakers and an old army jacket from the surplus store over his collar. Peter’s younger sister, Jennifer, attends college for Biochemistry at Notre Dame. In 2006, Peter became fully anointed as a brother of the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits. Peter’s dad still works as a clerk in the Chicago stockyards and holds a position in the local union. The good father, en route to a mission trip in the Aleutian islands, found himself deeply entangled with the supernatural. A little girl, an innocent soul not eleven years old, found herself driven to acts of horrific violence by something… else. Peter and a new-found friend subdued her and fled with an agent of the American government, though the little girl died. Landing on a rocky beach on the West Coast of British Columbia, Peter was again confronted with things of the dark when he came face to face with an ancient demon trapped in an illusory village. Though he was successful in bringing the tormented creature’s soul to rest, Peter found his body and his mind slipping as the true weight of the words of scripture and the darkness of the Vigil fell heavy on his shoulders. The true nightmare began in Philadelphia. It has not ended yet. He has much to pray for.
